2016 Ford Ranger Wildtrak
Just in the process of buying ourselves a 2016 Ford Ranger Wildtrak to pull our 5th wheel caravan when we get it this year.
From what I am reading some of the toys have to be removed like the trim added to the back of the cab, 58
Seems a nice truck, it is an auto 6 speed 3.2l with 29000 miles on the clock.

Yes the plastic trim needs to be removed. There is a link on CCRV's site as to a cover to the exposed holes etc. They also do a mirror extension kit.

Bob.
I have seen the mirror kits, not sure about going down that route.
I wasnt aware of having to cover holes Sad

Couple of questions?
So next thing is to get a 5th wheel hitch and put electrics in the back, are the electrics for a fiver the same as a standard uk caravan?
Is it worth upgrading the gross train weight on this truck to 7000kg's and adding the airbags?

The Ford is a brilliant truck, i know the stt group modify the rear plastic roll hoop so that it can be removed whilst towing and then refitted when not, they also upply and fit approved fifthwheel hitches and can do uprates, electrics etc, depending on the trailer i would say that you will need to uprate the truck to 7000kg gross train Check out The stt groups facebook page for more information http://www.facebook.com/thestttgroup

Fivers have a different wiring system. USA ones have 6 flat pins around a central circular pin. The 5th wheel Co seems to use standard 7n and 7s pin plugs. You will need a separate pin on USA fivers for the brakes. If you are unaware about USA fiver power braking see this link and others on you tube.
I would suggest you upgrade to 7000kgs as most fivers are heavier than what the manufacturer claim.

2016 Ford Ranger Wildtrak
Just been looking at a Rockwood 2889ws, says they are uk truck towable, but they gross out at 5 ton, can my ranger really tow one of these ?

I’m a tad confused

Yes they can you obviously won't be going uphill as fast as say a 3 ton rv. The main problem might be the pin weight as I think as standard a Ranger has some 906kgs payload.

Ok, thanks,
Yeah I was thinking the truck would work hard pulling a fiver of that size around wales

Looking at the weight of the 5er you are thinking of buying works out at 4100kg unladen with a pin weight of 655kg. The Ranger 2 up with fuel is probably 2300kg add the pin weight takes it to 2955kg. This works out as a GTW of 7055kg with nothing in the 5er at all so even up plated you would be towing illegally.

RE: 2016 Ford Ranger Wildtrak
yup, my point exactly, so how can it be legally towed behind a uk truck? unless we are talking a Volvo FH4
